As an individual, or as a couple, do you experience thoughts and feelings that weigh you down and block your progress?  These are often thoughts and feelings happening at an unconscious level of which you may not be fully aware. 

Providing you with a safe space

Anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief, panic attacks and PTSD are invisible adversaries, that can rob us of our peace, sabotage our happiness, and prevent our success.  This is true for both individuals and couples.  Many people live for years, sometimes an entire lifetime, feeling stuck, discouraged, angry, and defeated.  Any one of these can have a big impact on your mental health.  

Couples often struggle with communication, or other aspects which keep them from feeling fulfilled. There may be unhealed hurts from the past that have built up over time.  It is possible to learn how to feel connected and intimate with each other and heal what have been sources of upset and pain by participating in marriage therapy.  I facilitate couples through an intensive process which can help them heal the deeper workings of their relationship. 

 

Hidden trauma can make you feel heavy, unmotivated, and completely drained of energy.  It can cause you to act out with addictions or live in despair.  Trauma, stressful situations,  difficult decisions, can make you want to withdraw from life because it seems like there is no way out.  Many people tell me they not only feel these dark places inside,  but they can also experience the negative impact on their health, their lives, their relationships.  They just don’t know how to make the changes they ultimately want.  We can work together to change these underlying thought patterns and heal what is troubling you and holding you back in your life.

ABOUT ME

My name is Catherine McLenaghan and I am a registered psychotherapist specializing in individual and couples therapy.  I integrate body, mind, and spirit in my work to help individuals and couples heal those parts of their lives that have been sabotaging them.  I have trained in Energy Psychology and other related modalities.  My work is also informed by the latest discoveries in the field of neuroscience. I have studied extensively both individual and couples therapy with top therapists in Canada and the US.

I am deeply passionate about helping people transform their lives because I know from first-hand experience, both personally and professionally, that it is possible to change our lives for the better.  Some people have created success in their lives; however, they want to go even further.  Whatever you are dealing with, we can work together to make changes by going to the root of the issues and transforming whatever is holding you back.

 

What is my approach?

For me, therapy is more than just talking, it is multidimensional. It is about being fully present with you in your world while empowering you to move beyond your blockages to access your own wisdom. Our lives are about the relationship to our self and to others.  My role is to help you recognize how you are showing up in the world and help you bring about the changes that you desire in your life.  Changes include healing the deeper aspects through inner work in sessions, as well as practical changes that can have an impact on your daily life. 


I am located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and work with people who come to me from within Canada and the United States as well as the UK.  Sessions are in person, unless there are other circumstances, and in that case, we do online sessions.  Due to the nature of my practice, sessions are a minimum of two hours. Many people book longer sessions to allow the time needed to really accelerate the process. As a registered psychotherapist, my work is usually covered by most insurance companies that cover psychological services.
